Crowns and Bridges

The team at Six Twelve Family Dental is here to provide for your oral health needs. We want to help you and your loved ones show off healthy smiles for life. Our dental crowns and dental bridges are natural-looking, permanent restorations.

A dental crown covers the entire tooth from the biting surface to the gum line. A bridge replaces missing teeth and is fixed in place. Unlike a filling, a crown or bridge provides strength and protection from further breakage or damage from chewing.

When Do You Need a Crown or Bridge?

A crown or bridge will improve the appearance of your smile and the strength of the damaged tooth. The situations in which a dental crown is appropriate include:

  • A tooth with multiple breakages
  • A tooth with a pre-existing crack or a high risk of fracturing
  • A tooth that has been treated with a root canal

A dental bridge can be used for anyone who is missing one tooth or multiple teeth.

What to Expect

If you want a dental crown, two separate appointments are involved. During the first appointment, we prepare the tooth by trimming and shaping it appropriately. We will take an impression of the trimmed tooth and place a temporary crown until your dental crown is fabricated. At the second appointment, we remove the temporary crown and permanently fix the finished crown into place.

Similarly, a bridge involves two visits. At the first, impressions are taken that are used to create your bridge. At your follow-up, we’ll fit the bridge in place and show you how to carefully clean it.

Your crown or bridge will last for many years with the proper care.
